REQUIREMENTS OF BUREAU MEMBERSHIP

TO QUALIFY FOR, and maintain membership in the Better Business Bureau®, a firm must:

  1. Be actively involved in business within this BBB area for not less than six (6) months, or meet no less than one (1) of the following qualifications:
    1. The principal(s) is well known to the Bureau because of other businesses in which they are, or have been involved;
    2. The firm is a branch of an already accepted member or company;
    3. The firm moved from or is an expansion of business in another Bureau area where it is, or was, a member in good standing; and/or
    4. The applicant precommits to binding arbitration as a BBB Care Program participant.

    (The Bureau may, at its discretion, extend the minimum time in business requirement to a period greater than six (6) months, if in its opinion, such additional time is required for a proper evaluation of the applicant firm.)

  2. Provide general information on the nature of the business, the background of company principals, or other information deemed necessary by the Bureau.
  3. Agree to support the purpose and function of the Better Business Bureau® as defined in its bylaws.
  4. Have a record of business integrity including, where applicable, a record of satisfactory performance in business/customer relations as determined by:
    1. BBB records,
    2. Reports from other Bureaus,
    3. Reports from other reliable sources.
Standards for Membership

  1. Actively support the goals and principles of the Better Business Bureau®.
  2. Cooperate with the Bureau's activities and efforts to promote voluntary self-regulation.
  3. Respond promptly, in a businesslike manner, to all complaints brought to its attention by the BBB and inform the BBB of such responses.
  4. Eliminate the cause of patterns or trends of complaints brought to the company's attention by the BBB.
  5. Adhere to established BBB Standards of Advertising and Selling, including the Code of Online Business Practices for online businesses that apply for the BBBOnLine Reliability.
  6. Be licensed and bonded in accordance with State and City regulations.
  7. Be free from any governmental action concerning the marketplace and its customers that demonstrates a significant failure of the company to support the principles and purposes of the Better Business Bureau®.
  8. Refrain from the use of registered trademarks citing BBB membership; "Better Business Bureau®," the "torch logo," and/or "BBB" in advertising and/or promotions except as authorized in writing by the Better Business Bureau® and Council of Better Business Bureaus.
  9. Refrain from engaging in business activities which, in the Bureau's opinion fails to meet community standards of taste, decency, ethics or morality.
  10. Upon termination of membership by either party, remove from display and return to the Better Business Bureau® all membership materials, including but not limited to, membership wall plaque, special program decals, advertising slicks or other material.
Failure to maintain the requirements and standards of membership shall result in termination of membership and the right to use or display the BBB membership plaque and decal.
